What, who, when, where, why?

What?

The ProZ Pro Bono Program is a charitable cash-free initiative launched by ProZ.com, the world's largest community of professional translators and interpreters. This program connects language professionals with non-profit organizations and individuals in need of translation and interpreting services, all on a volunteer basis. Through this program, ProZ.com facilitates a global network of linguistic support, enabling access to vital information and services for underserved communities.

Who?

The ProZ Pro Bono Program serves non-profit organizations around the world, in order that they can address multilingual communities, and devote their scarce resources to their primary aim of serving the disadvantaged. The translation and interpretation work is done by language professionals who are registered members of ProZ.com. These individuals are passionate about making a positive impact by offering their expertise free of charge to those who require assistance. It is funded by the members of ProZ.com

Where?

The ProZ Pro Bono Program operates on a global scale. Language professionals and non-profit organizations from all corners of the world can participate. The program leverages the virtual nature of ProZ.com, enabling cross-border collaboration. Volunteers can offer their services, and beneficiaries can request assistance regardless of their geographical location.

When?

The ProZ Pro Bono Program is an ongoing initiative, and participation is possible year-round. Language professionals can sign up as volunteers at any time, and non-profit organizations or individuals in need can submit requests whenever necessary. The flexibility in timing allows for the immediate response to urgent language-related needs.

Why?

The ProZ Pro Bono Program serves a vital purpose in bridging linguistic gaps for those who might otherwise struggle to provide or gain access to essential information and services. It aligns with the core values of ProZ.com, which are to foster collaboration and support within the translation and interpreting community, and to make a meaningful difference in the world. This program fulfills a broader mission of promoting understanding, communication, and access to information globally.

The program is a compassionate and impactful endeavor that empowers language professionals to volunteer their skills, providing crucial services to those in need around the globe.  Volunteer translators and interpreters in the ProZ Pro Bono Program contribute their skills and expertise, not for personal gain, but to make a positive impact on the lives of those who require language support.
